A tattooed Sphynx cat will no longer go through a life behind bars — and is searching for a brand-new home — after it was rescued from the Cereso 3 jail in Mexico.
The cat, who does not yet have a name, was taken into the care of animal rescue employees in the city of Juarez after authorities discovered that gang members had actually tattooed and typically maltreated the animal, Reuters reported on Thursday.
There are tattoos on both sides of the hairless cat, among which checks out “Made in Mexico.”
The expression “Made in Mexico” is connected to the “Los Mexicles,” a street gang connected to the infamous Sinaloa Cartel.
The tattoos were engraved on the cat without anesthetic and might have come from a gang leader who was killed on January 5 after getting away the jail, Mail Online reported.
Authorities said they are now searching for a caring family to adopt the one-year-old cat.
“The cat is really friendly and remains in terrific shape, without any infections,” Cesar Rene Diaz, ecology director for the city of Juarez, informed Reuters.
Mexican authorities are still deciding about who will adopt the young feline and strategy to turn over the animal to a family in an event on March 1, according to Reuters.
