PORT ORANGE, Fla. – A Port Orange lady stated she was saved by her cat following an unintentional hearth at her cell home.
Karen Maceachron lives in Riverside cell home park off of South Ridgewood Avenue. She stated the fireplace began from a candle she lit within the lavatory.
“I forgot it was lit, and I fell asleep watching TV,” she stated.
At that time, her cat Chewy knocked the candle over. As the flames started to develop, Maceachron was quick asleep. Karen stated there have been a number of cans on a shelf close to her mattress. She stated the cat started knocking them onto her to wake her up.
By the time she awoke, smoke had begun to refill the room. She grabbed her pets and headed outdoors.
“I simply ran out the door. When the door opened, the entire thing went ‘Woosh!’”
She made it, together with Chewy and her canine, Stella.
Firefighters contained the fireplace, however the camper was fully destroyed. Nearby properties sustained minor injury, however no accidents had been reported.
