Richhill cat Garfield

A one-year-old family cat was put to sleep over the weekend after undergoing stunning and inconceivable ruthlessness at the hands of an ill person.

Lorraine Forde, from Richhill, said she “thought long and hard about posting this story” narrating the upsetting death of her animal cat, Garfield.

She said that after 2 long weeks and a damaged heart she felt she needed to speak out in a quote to capture the offender – or offenders accountable for the scary they caused.

Lorraine said Garfield was dipped in either diesel or home heating oil on Friday, January 27 and after numerous washes and check outs to the veterinarian, the cat was relatively on the heal.

However, a 2nd event 7 weeks later on, on March 13, it went back to its Brentwood Park home appearing like a big black rat.

Said Lorraine: “After hours of cleaning it with coconut oil and infant bath we got it back to its own colour. He couldn’t open his eyes with the fuel and had big chemical burns on its wee body.

“After a week and a couple of check outs to the veterinarian, continuously using cream, he was looking and succeeding – on the exterior.

“Unfortunately, on Wednesday night he went down on the back legs, so we took it to the out of hours vets at 10pm. It got a good check over injections and sent home.”

Sadly, the reprieve was just over night and Garfield was back at the veterinarians the list below early morning where an X-ray discovered it had actually suffered nerve damage to the spinal column, “either by swinging it by the tail or using the tail to dip it” in fuel.

The cat had actually likewise suffered injury to its testicles which had actually begun an actually bad infection.

Lorraine included: “Since Wednesday it hadn’t been able to empty its bladder itself and was trailing its back legs, which meant it had to go back to the vets every morning to have his wee bladder emptied.”

On Saturday early morning, the family made the heartbreaking choice to put wee Garfield to sleep and out of its discomfort.

“So to the wicked individual, or individuals, who did this to the wee cat; I can’t even state, God forgive you. To believe there are individuals, or a single person in Richhill, our town, that might do this to an innocent wee kitten simply over one-year-old; I can’t discover the words to explain you.

“It has cost us almost £800 simply to provide it comfort and a wee possibility to endure this experience! I would pay it once again if I believed I’d have him back. He was so friendly and such a gorgeous wee cat!

“If anyone knows anything that can help find out who did this, can you please PM me as it will help the Police with cruelty to Animal investigation.”
