Protected bird shot in County Durham, cops are attracting public

The red kite bird was discovered with a shot injury near Burnhope Burn, in upper Weardale, by a member of the general public who was out walking.

An x-ray validated the bird had actually been shot and had actually suffered a serious break in its wing which was splinted.

A representative for Durham Constabulary said: “Police are appealing for info after a secured bird was hurt in the Dales.

“The red kite bird was discovered with a shot injury by a walker near Burnhope Burn.
