In 1965, Jean Schlumberger set down a bird on a gems, developing both a slyly amusing, elegant brooch and a renowned jewellery minute. It is a cultural theme here rethought by Tiffany & Co, who reconsider the unique style in pill high jewellery collection, Bird on a Pearl.
Incredibly unusual, natural saltwater pearls sourced in the Gulf area form the basis for a range of styles. Acquired from the personal collection of Mr. Hussein Al Fardan, who owns the biggest collection of natural pearls in the Gulf area, the subtle gradients of the dark gray, gray, light cream, light pinkish-brown and white pearls nod to Schlumberger’s unusual visual.
A three-strand locket of finished natural saltwater white cream pearls, amounting to over 316 overall carats, is the emphasize of the collection, with its diamond birds with pink sapphire eyes fluttering over the velvety hairs. Pieces likewise consist of a brooch of baroque, button and near-round pearls and a pendant, earrings and rings.
Schlumberger’s impact is seen throughout, from the undulating curves of a ring set with a button natural saltwater light pinkish brown pearl to the mismatching earrings made up of a natural saltwater white drop pearl and a natural saltwater dark gray drop pearl. Elsewhere, the natural types of baroque pearls make tantalising perches for the curious, diamond-speckled bird.
