New Melle Country Christmas 2022

On Saturday, November 26, the New Melle Chamber of Commerce, New Melle Sports and Rec and New Melle 411 hosted the New Melle Country Christmas Tree Lighting and Parade. This annual free family event was a great way to start the holiday season. Santa and Mrs. Claus arrived by firetruck and spent the evening with the kids inside the beautifully decorated NMSR Banquet Hall. Inside families could write letters to Santa, make a Christmas ornament, decorate cookies, take a picture at the photo booth, enjoy the magic show, balloon artists, jugglers, face painters, and cookies and punch. Outside, there were carolers, hot cocoa, wassail, hot dogs and walking tacos, popcorn, reindeer food, other goodies and warm fires. Teddy Bears were collected honoring Trevor Joerling; they will be donated to Children’s Hospital on Christmas morning for kids that are hospitalized. Canned goods were collected and donated to the St. Vincent de Paul food pantry as well.

State Representative Richard West addressed the crowd and led the countdown for the tree lighting. When it was time for Santa and Mrs. Clause to head back to the North Pole, the NMFPD helped them get on their way after they led the parade through town.

The New Melle Chamber of Commerce would like to thank the many sponsors and volunteers for their support. Thank you to New Melle Sports and Rec for the use of the facilities and all of their volunteers. Thanks to Paul Mittler for the sound system, IHM Carolers for their beautiful music, and to New Melle 411 for organizing the parade.
