OKOBOJI LAKE, IA (NBC News) — A teen delved into icy water Saturday to help rescue an 83-year-old guy and his dog.
Thomas Lee’s Jeep failed ice under a bridge in Iowa, the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office says.
That’s when Joe Salmon, who was ice fishing with his mother at the time, saw the experience and called 911.
The 17-year-old trainee professional athlete and another group of 4 males burst the Jeep’s back window to pull Lee and the dog out to safety.
Salmon said he’s simply happy everybody is okay, consisting of the dog.
The constable’s workplace says Lee was required to a medical facility however is succeeding.
The males who assisted Salmon — Corey McConnell, Kody Harrelson, Cody Chester and Chris Parks — weren’t hurt throughout the rescue. Salmon was dealt with for small cuts from the glass.
In a Facebook post about the rescue, the constable’s workplace says deputies were helped at the scene by the Okoboji Police Department, the Arnold’s Park/Okoboji Rescue and Dive Team and paramedics with Lakes Regional Healthcare.
