A beaver discovered washed up on a Kent seashore is ‘back to enjoying eating and grooming’ because it recovers at a wildlife centre.
The animal was found at Sandwich Bay in east Kent after venturing out of its pure freshwater habitat and going for a swim within the sea.
It’s thought the male beaver bought in hassle after swallowing the salty water.
He was rescued by British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR) and brought to RSPCA Mallydams Wood in East Sussex.
The wildlife centre shared footage of him in his enclosure and stated he was ‘back to enjoying eating and grooming’.
Centre supervisor Peter Smith stated: ‘It’s fairly frequent for beavers to get into problem right now of yr – the kids go away their household lodge and begin exploring, however sadly some go for a swim within the sea and get into problem, and sadly many lose their lives.
‘We have had four reported to us this week and sadly one had already died.’
Mr Smith was within the workforce that first reintroduced beavers again to England in 2002 on the Ham Fen venture in Kent.
He added: ‘This poor chap was found washed up on a beach in East Kent by BDMLR rescuers and they brought him here to recuperate.
‘After washing all the salt out of the beaver’s fur and giving them a shower, the beaver began to really feel higher.
‘With lots of nutritious food including fresh willow, apples and carrots, the beaver has recovered.’
The beaver is recovering in a lodge made out of straw bales to maintain him secure and heat earlier than the shelter will probably be reworked with sticks from the woodland.
The beaver, who’s being monitored by cameras, will probably be returned to the wild as soon as given the OK by vets.
