A minimum of 568 folks have been killed after a 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck Turkey and Syria this morning.
Buildings have collapsed in cities throughout the area, a few of them lots of of miles from the epicentre of the quake which struck near the southern Turkish metropolis of Kahramanmaras at 4.17 am. The official dying toll in Turkey has risen to 284, with 2,323 folks injured.
Fuat Okay, the vice-president, mentioned 70 folks had been killed within the province of Kahramanmaras, close to the epicentre, together with 20 in Osmaniye, 18 in Sanliurfa, 14 in Diyarbakir and 13 in Adiyaman.
Folks had been injured throughout ten provinces and 1,700 buildings collapsed.
The earthquake was felt as distant as Lebanon and Gaza. Highly effective aftershocks continued after the preliminary strike.
