A recent study performed in Alberta has actually revealed some unnerving stats. Just under half of Albertans surveyed mentioned that they experienced unwanted sexual advances at the work environment. Sixty-one percent of those surveyed said they saw unwanted sexual advances and just one in 10 events were reported to authority figures.
Carolyn Krahn, executive director of the Workers’ Resource Centre in Alberta, says that the low numbers are because of doubt from employees out of worry of losing their jobs.
“The one reason that we often get from clients is just that they fear their job may be in jeopardy if they report it,” Krahn said on Thursday.
The Workers’ Resource Centre wished to resolve the issue of work environment unwanted sexual advances. Their concept was introduced just recently. The website, Here For Help, was produced to make sure Albertans had the appropriate access to resources and assistance in handling experiences with unwanted sexual advances.
