Ilkay Gundogan insists there can be no let-up if City are to build on our Premier League triumph before the end of the season.

Pep Guardiola’s men retained the league title for the third successive campaign following Arsenal’s 1-0 defeat at Nottingham Forest on Saturday evening and marked the occasion with victory over Chelsea by the same margin the following day.

And with an FA Cup and UEFA Champions League final both on the horizon, the 2022/23 season is shaping up to be another remarkable chapter in the Club’s history.

For Gundogan, those prospects of further silverware are reliant on us continuing at our current level in the coming weeks.

Further Success Reliant On Maintaining Our Current Standards

Asked what is needed for City to add to our trophy cabinet once again, the captain said: “To believe in our own strengths.

“At one point in the season a few months ago, there was a feeling that it just clicked in the team and since then we have been on a run.

“We haven’t lost any games for so many weeks and that’s the standard that we have to set for ourselves.

“We do nothing different; we do the same things that we’ve done in the last few weeks and hopefully it can be a really special end to the season.

“I love the club and being part of this amazing team. Obviously, we want to finish the season with two more trophies.

“We have two more big finals, and the last two games of the Premier League season are going to be preparation for that.

“We don’t want to drop anything. I would love to lift two more trophies.”

Our latest Premier League title success represented our fifth in the past six seasons.

Gundogan has been a part of all five of those title-winning sides under Pep Guardiola, becoming the Catalan’s first signing on arrival in the summer of 2016.

And while the midfielder admits this season’s title triumph has provided a unique experience, he insists the feeling of winning England’s top prize remains as sweet as ever.

He said: “Every single run-in brings different experiences and different attitudes that you have to bring on the pitch. This one is different than last year because last year was such a drama. This year we have won it in front of the TV.

“What is similar is that each one feels special. In January and February, it’s not the time to think about it – especially with having the World Cup in December.

“There were still so many games to play. The main thing we were thinking about was the way we were playing and the results we were getting. That’s what we cared about.

“We had a few downs throughout the season but it’s another experience.

“We knew we had to stay calm, stay patient and we had to get results and that’s exactly what we did.”
