Auckland’s tsumani sirens will go through biannual screening at midday today, Auckland Council says.
The sirens lie in a variety of seaside areas and make a mix of alert noises and voice guidelines encouraging homeowners on what to do in a genuine emergency situation.
Auckland Council said it was necessary to keep in mind sirens were not present in all seaside locations in the Auckland area and were not the main method of notifying the general public of a tsunami emergency situation.
Auckland Emergency Management basic supervisor Paul Amaral said in case of a real tsunami emergency situation, an Emergency Mobile Alert would be transmitted to all capable cellphones.
“As well as sending out an Emergency Mobile Alert, we will likewise get the message out through broadcast on radio, tv, news media and social networks platforms,” he said.
“We motivate individuals to share main messages with others to make certain the message goes out if required.
“However, if you are at the coast and feel an earthquake which is long or strong, or see other natural indication, leave instantly to greater ground without waiting on an authorities alert.”
